This is the unique and mind-blowing experience of a snowshoe hike in
the Dolomites. In the winter months, the snow capped landscape surrounding
you invites you to spend a perfect winter holiday full of snowy hikes
and excursions that bring peace and harmony for your body and soul.
The selected itinerary combines the beauty of the region with its cultural
and historical highlights. You will be passing through the areas in
which you'll find remnants of the First World War, like canons and galleries
built inside the mountains. These commemorate the bravery of the soldiers
who mostly lost their lives due to the adverse mountain conditions.
Difficulty: Moderate. Full-day snow shoeing (4 to 6 hours) most days
over fairly hilly terrain with occasional steep trails and exposure.
Some elevation gain and loss (hiking up or down 300-600 meters) on most
days.
ITINERARY
Day 01 : Arrive in Venice Marco Polo Airport. Transfer to the Alta Badia
region of the Dolomites. Meet your guide for a briefing on the trip.
Dinner and overnight in your hotel in Corvara or San Cassiano.
Day 02 : Breakfast in the hotel, then a private transfer (40 minutes) to Passo delle Erbe (2006m). Snow shoe from the parking lot at Pe di Borz to the top of Monte Muro (2157m). Return to the Utia di Borz and transfer back to San Cassiano / Corvara. There is the option of descending by sledge form the Utia di Borz to Antermoia. Approx hours: 4. Elevation Gain: 160m. Km: 4
Day 03 : Breakfast in the hotel, then a pprivate transfer to Capanna Alpina (1720m). From here snow shoe to Rifugio Fanes (2060m) along the Val di Fanes. Lunch at the Rifugio Fanes and descend to Pederu (1500m). Transfer back to Alta Badia. Approx hours: 5. Elevation Gain: 340m. Km: 10,5
Day 04 : Breakfast in the hotel, then a Private 30 minutes transfer
to Castello di Andraz (1748m). From here snow shoe to the top of Col
di Lana (2452m) and descend to Pralongia 2157m) and then to town.
Approx hours: 6. Elevation Gain: 750m. Km:12.
Day 05 : Breakfast in the hotel, then a private transfer to Passo Falzarego and cable car up to Rifugio Lagazuoi. Snow shoe between the Cime di Fanis to the Rifugio Scotoni and Capanna Alpina. Transfer back to town. Approx hours: 4. Elevation Gain: -1002m. Km: 5km
Day 06 : Breakfast in the hotel, then a Private transfer (30 minutes) to La Valle (location of Cernadù). Snow shoe from La Valle on trail #16 up to the Ospizio di Santa Croce. From here option to snow shoe to San Cassiano or take chairlift down to San Leonardo and transfer back to town.
Sanctuary of Ospizio S. Croce (2045m)
The sober white church was consecrated in 1484 and holds an image of
Christ bearing the cross, hence the name of the mountain-Sasso della
Croce, "stone of the cross." The earlier chapel on the site
was built in the 11th century when a wealthy count of the Val Pusteria
withdrew in meditation here in repentance for his harsh treatment of
his subjects. He then donated all his earthly possessions
to the nearby abbey, the badia, which gave its name to Val Badia. The
"pilgrim's" hospice (ospizio) building from 1718 was originally
the sacristan's lodgings.

Day 07 : Breakfast in the hotel, then a private transfer to Passo Valparola
(2168m). From here snow shoe along the valley of Pra de Ciamena to Munt
di Valparola (1749m) and keep on going to San Cassiano (1600m). Approx
hours: 4. Elevation Gain: 568m. Km: 7.
Day 08 : Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Venice Marco Polo Airport
for your flight home.

You should arrange a flight in to Venice, to arrive by 12 noon latest.
Your homeward flight should be arranged to depart Venice after 14.00
(2.00 p.m.)
ACCOMMODATION You will stay for 7 nights in a comfortable 3 star hotel, where all rooms have en suite bathrooms, in one of the charming villages of the Alta Badia region, such as Corvara or San Cassiano. You will enjoy evening dinner and breakfast each day.
TRAVEL. Travel within Italy will be by deluxe coach or by passenger van, local service bus, cable car or chair lift, as appropriate.
THE SNOW SHOEING PROGRAMME. On each of the six days you will show-shoe for approximately 4-6 hours. You will be accompanied by a fully qualified IFMGA mountain guide with extensive knowledge of mountaineering in the Dolomites. The Guide to client ratio is 1:6 maximum.
SAFETY AND AWARENESS TRAINING. Adventurous activities in the mountains have their dangers. These can never be removed altogether but they can be minimised. You will be provided with a thrilling holiday directed with maximum attention to your safety and that of others You will not be expected to just blindly follow your experienced leaders. You will be given the opportunity to learn mountain craft skills and understand about the hazards, how to minimise the risk, and how to cope with incidents should they happen.

VENICE EXTENSION. At the end of the holiday you will have the option of extending your stay in Venice (and / or Cortina if you prefer) for as many days as you wish. We feel this is a wise step and takes away much of the stress of getting to the airport for earlier flights.
